The following are our remaining preliminary draft predictions.
Pick 16. Dallas Cowboys – DT Timmy Jernigan
The Cowboys made a fair showing last season despite having issues all over their roster. They really need a Safety, however with the top talent likely gone this can be addressed in round two. If they do go safety then we would expect them to take Jimmie Ward.
17. Baltimore Ravens – WR Brandin Cooks
The Ravens put up a poor show in defence of their Super Bowl crown in 2013, and much of the blame can be laid on the lack of weapons available to Joe Flacco. Picking up Steve Smith will help, however they need extra help on offence and Cooks looks like he could make an immediate impact. They may also consider TE Eric Ebron Here.
18. New York Jets – TE Eric Ebron
With 12 picks overall the Jest are well positioned to take advantage of this years deep draft, however they really need these picks to work if they are to challenge in the strong AFC East. Rookie QB Geno Smith looked ok at times last year but sorely needed weapons and if the Jets choose to add a big powerful TE like Ebron to their free agency acquisition Eric Decker they will will give him every chance to shine. If he can’t do it with these two, the Jets could be looking at QBs in the 2015 Draft.
19. Miami Dolphins OT Taylor Lewan
The Dolphins need more muscle on the OL and despite their Free agency acquisition of Brandon Albert we would expect them to take Lewan here, where he represents good value.
20. Arizona Cardinals SS Jimmie Ward
The Cardinals had a great 2013, however it is not clear if Carson Palmer will be able to emulate fellow veteran Kurt Warner and take them into the playoffs, thus if one of the top rated QBs has slid, then we can see them taking o0ne here. however if things pan out as we expect they will address their main need at safety and Jimmy Ward would be good value here
21. Green Bay Packers ILB C J Mosley
The Packers need some depth at safety and also on the Defensive front, however their biggest need is a run stopper and ex Alabama ILB CJ Mosley should be able to slot straight in. Ryan Shazier is another option here as would be Safety Jimmy Ward if he slides this far.
22. Philadelphia Eagles WR Cody Latimer
The Eagles need to replace De Shawn Jackson and will almost certainly take the best WR left at 22 unless they choose to trade up. Step Forward Cody Latimer who we just give the edge her to over at 6ft 3 inches will give them a big man on the outside and for jump balls when in the red zone.
23. Kansas City Chiefs OG Xavier Su’a Filo
With Three OL Men lost to free agency it i9s hard to see the Chiefs taking anything other than a replacement in the first round (and possibly with their next pick too). They would love Zack Martin to fall to them but we can’t see it.
24. Cincinnati Bengals CB Darqueze Dennard
The Bengals have other needs but seeing Dennard still on the board here should prove too tempting.
25. San Diego Chargers CB Kyle Fuller
The Chargers need a QB and Kyle Fuller is likely to be the best left on the board by now.
26. Cleveland Browns QB Derek Carr
The Browns need to get their QB situation sorted , if they are going to compete in the tough AFC North. Brian Hoyer looked ok when finally given the chance last season, and he is almost certainly going to be given the starters job (assuming they don’t go for a QB at pick 4). However adding some genuine competition never hurt and Derek Carr looks worthy of a late 1st round pick.
27. New Orleans Saints WR Odell Beckham Jr.
The Saints could do with adding some depth in several positions, and should Odell Beckham Jr. slide to 27 they will see this as great value. In less deep drafts he would have been long gone.
28. Carolina Panthers WR Marqise Lee
The Panthers need to give Cam Newton weapons and Marquis Lee is again a player who in previous years would have been picked up earlier.
29. New England Patriots DT Louis Nix
We would not back against the Patriots trading up this year to get a top WR, however assuming they stand Pat (no pun intended) then getting younger on the DL makes sense.
30. San Francisco 49ers WR Allen Robinson
The 49ers have a plethora of picks this year and like the Pats may choose to use some to trade up for top talent, however given the depth of their squad and the quality still on the board they may address their desire for a big WR with Allen Robinson.
31. Denver Broncos CB Bradley Roby
The Broncos have done pretty well in free agency, however CB is still a concern, and either Bradley Roby or Jason Verrett should fit the bill.
32. Seattle Seahawks WR Kelvin Benjamin
The Seahawks are a little light on draft picks this year and we think it is above 50-50 that they will seek to trade out of the 1st round in the hope of picking up an extra 3rd or 4th rounder. However assuming they stay in the 1st round then a big WR would give Wilson an extra attacking dimension this season. (They may trade out of the first and take him anyway).
