Lions, Lewand Team Up with Boys & Girls Clubs

Allen Park, MIDetroit Lions President Tom Lewand and Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano are teaming up for area youth by co-chairing the Wayne County Steak & Burger Dinner benefiting seven Boys & Girls Clubs in Wayne County. This exciting event will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011 at UAW-GM Center for Human Resources (200 Walker St.) in Detroit. A VIP reception begins at 5:30 PM with the dinner starting at 6:30 PM.

The dinner is hoping to raise nearly $ 100,000 to benefit the six Wayne County Boys & Girls Clubs located in Detroit, Belleville, Romulus, and Highland Park, where more than 9,000 youth receive homework help and participate in sports and other after-school activities in a safe, educational and fun environment.

Several former Lions will be in attendance including Hall of Famers Lem Barney and Charlie Sanders, as well as Ron Rice, Cory Schlesinger and Dewayne White.

The dinner will highlight the accomplishments of some of the youth served in Wayne County.  It is a night in which the kids are the stars for the evening.  In an effort to keep our priorities in order, the adults will eat burgers while kids will dine on steaks. It is an evening to celebration our children, our future leaders.

Amerisure Insurance is the presenting sponsor and Blue Cross Blue Shield will be a major sponsor.
