The usually consistent Field Goal Kicker Jeff Reed has finally been axed by the Pittsburgh Steelers after he missed a 26 yard FG against the Patriots taking his total missed for the season to 7 from 22. This may seem harsh, however his stats are well down on his career average of 83.26% prior to this season. After taking into account his off field antics and slightly eccentric nature then you have to come down on the side of the coaching staff, who after all only have one kicker in the squad so cant simply bench him.
They have replaced him with Shaun Suisham who has had spells with the Redskins and Dallas so should be well used to pressure. He hit 20 of 24 in the 2009 season and has a credible career record of 87-110. Whether he is the long term answer remains to be seen but if he can help take the Steelers deep into the post season he might just land a nice contract.
