San Diego Chargers Outside Linebacker Shawne Merriman has finally agreed to sign the tender offer reportedly worth $3.269m after his hoped for big money contract offer failed to materialise.
This looks a smart move by both parties as Merriman is obviously happy as San Diego and given they are still one of the strongest teams in the AFC he still has a chance at a Super Bowl ring if he stays with them.
From San Diego’s viewpoint this gives them the chance to assess whether he will recapture his early career form an point worth considering with money involved given that Merriman has only managed 4 sacks in two seasons, about 1 every 4 games. In his 1st three seasons this average was closed to 1 a game as he recorded 39.5 in 42 games.
If he has a good season then that big money contract extension could still materialise.
