This season the Oakland Raiders have managed a respectable 8-8 record thanks in no small part from a 6-0 divisional record. However this was not good enough for Al Davis who has decided not to renew Tom Cables contract. This is a little disappointing given that under his control the team has steadily improved and this season marks Oakland’s first non-losing record since winning the 2002 AFC championship. The players were behind him and it will be interesting to see if the team holds together now he has gone. At this stage there is no indication as to his replacement and given this is a classic poison chalice it will be hard for them to tempt anyone with a track record.
