With 100m people viewing one can just about excuse pop star Christine Aguilera’s minor faux pax at Super Bowl 45 on Sunday. She had been given the honour of singing the Star Spangled Banner before the kick-off of the Super Bowl but quickly drew the ire of the crowd for committing the cardinal sin of getting the words wrong.
Rather than singing “O’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming,” Aguilera instead treated us to a mashed up version which came out as: “What so proudly we watched at the twilight’s last reaming.” Still the rest of her performance was on a par with previous renditions and hopefully the nation will allow this to drift into memory without too much furor.
She is not the first to suffer this embarrassment as Rosanne Barr can testify; she caused national uproar with a hideous rendition before a baseball game in 1990. The result – you can be excused for asking Rosanne who!
Anyone who wants to have a quick shudder at the poor girls expense can view Christine’s rendition below.
