This was billed as the game of the Century and well over 100,000 turned up at at Bryant-Denny Stadium to witness the dram. However as so often happens with over hyped games it was more damp squib than fireworks (at least for the neutral viewer) with LSU grabbing the glory and a probably BSC Championship place with an OT Field Goal.
The game was not without drama with both sides throwing 2 interceptions and four missed Alabama field goals. Then throw in a heap of nervous penalties and a few other errors and you had an intriguing if not thoroughly entertaining game.
LSU were held to 91 yards passing against 199 from the Tide, and although defenses looked well on top Nick Sabens Alabama will know they only have themselves to blame for this loss.
With Oklahoma State winning a tough game against Kansas State, and both Stanford and Boise remaining unbeaten, its hard to se the two having a rematch in the BSC Championship, however Stanford do have Oregon next week and Boise have divisional rivals TCU. Stanford could possibly lose against the Ducks, but its almost impossible to conjure up a scenario in which Boise loses to the Horned Frogs.
Further Oklahoma State would have to lose and although a trip to Texas Tech is never a given, the Red Raiders look well out of sorts at the moment.
Overall Alabama’s fate is no longer in their own hands and even though they should win out from here it now looks like LSU v Oklahoma State, Stanford or Boise in the BSC Championship, although still undefeated Houston may still have something to say about that.
