The Pittsburgh Steelers have chosen not to Franchise nose tackle Casey Hampton giving him a 3 year deal. Although not the most widely recognised star in the Steelers team he is a formidable part of their run defence which has been ranked 2nd or 3rd in the NFL in each of the last five seasons. At 32 Hampton will probably end his career at Heinz Field with the team he joined in 2001.
Pittsburgh have however placed the franchise tag on Kicker Jeff Reed meaning any team who wants to sign him this season will have to give up 2 first round draft picks. This will give The Steelers time to decide whether to award a new contract before he becomes a free agent in 2011.
