Potential free agent Santonio Holmes has indicated in a recent interview that he would like a long term deal with the New York Jets stating he wont sign a 1 year deal if classified as a restricted free agent.
With there currently being no clarity regarding lanour law in the NFL the Jets have tried to protect themselves by placing the highest restricted tender on Holmes, first- and third-round picks, however no one knows if this will mean anything in 2011 once the dust clears.
Holmes, who at 27, is coming into his peak is deserving of a long-term deal having sorted his off field life out , and with Braylon Edwards possibly loking further afield, the Jets could do worse than try and ensure they make unofficial noises to ensure Holmes knows he is wanted.
The Jets have reached the Championship game two years running and although they will face stiff competition from the Parriots again this year if they keep the squad together will be challenging again.
