2009 AFC North Season End Round Up

AFC North

September predictions:

1st Baltimore Ravens

2nd Pittsburgh Steelers

3rd Cincinnati Bengals

4th Cleveland Browns

Actual Finish

1st Cincinnati Bengals

2nd Baltimore Ravens

3rd Pittsburgh Steelers

4th Cleveland Browns

Possibly the season’s biggest surprise is not only the Bengals winning the division but sweeping their 3 opponents. They have not looked convincing of late but I doubt any Bengals fans will be complaining and with a home tie against the Jets coming up they will fancy their chances of making it to the Divisional game at least where the Chargers will be waiting.

The Ravens will also fancy their chances of making the divisional game having had a good chance to beat the Patriots earlier in the year only a dropped pass in the last minute stopped them and they have generally played well without having much luck. If, and it’s a big if then they will probably face the Colts in the divisional game and they could have won the regular season meeting.

The Steelers looked done and dusted when losing to the Browns but managed 3 narrow wins and could have qualified had the Colts and Bengals not capitulated against the Jets. A disappointing season for the reigning champions who don’t look the same team when Troy Polamalu is missing.

The Browns looked awful for most of the season but suddenly discovered a running game and won their last 4 games. Jerome Harrison looks like a good prospect at running back and if they can sort out the QB position and get a decent wide receiver they could do well next year.
